Nicole, Hampton and the babies

Monday morning was a morning that will change my life, and other lives in our family. Nicole, my sister in law, wasn’t feeling well. She is pregnant (22 weeks) with twin girls, Joanna Katherine and Rita Elizabeth. Her husband, Hampton, was heading to work at the base in Fort Walton and they decided that she should go into the hospital just to check things out. When she was being checked, the doctors realized she was 5 cm dilated and rushed her by ambulance to Sacred Heart in Pensacola. From there, they were starting giving her meds to stop the labor. That afternoon, one of the sacs burst, which meant baby A (Joanna) would be born soon. As the doctors tried to hold off that labor as long as possible, it appeared that Baby B’s (Rita) sac broke too and she would have to be born as well. Well, at 22 weeks, the outcome did not appear favorable. Tuesday afternoon, Joanna was breech and they headed to the OR to deliver her only. When they did, they realized that Rita’s sac had NOT been broken and so they “sewed up her cervix” in attempt to save Rita. Joanna Katherine was born 1 lb and was 13 inches long. She was alive for about 40 minutes. Her lungs had not developed, and Hampton said she just couldn’t breathe. Rita Elizabeth is still developing inside of Nicole, and the prayer is that she will stay there for another 4 – 6 weeks at least. Hampton told Wade that this procedure had been successful from anywhere from 2 days to 3 months. We would LOVE for it to work for 3 months! PLEASE pray for this family as they are grieving the loss of a child, and praying that their other can be saved with more time in the womb. Hampton and Nicole are such wonderful Christian people and have relied on God’s word through this all. They know God has a plan, and we don’t know what it is, or why, but that it is His way. Wades family has had a lot of ups and downs over the past year and a half. God knows why, and we don’t, but we just have to trust in Him always.

  1. I am so sorry, Laura. This certainly has been a full and sometimes hard year for your family. I will keep praying!
