Let me tell you a secret…I am JUST learning to cook. Yes, 4 years into our marriage I am finally figuring out this cooking thing. Let me tell you another secret…right after Wade moved into his first apartment I wanted to cook him a meal. I caught his oven on fire -- making a SALAD --- a salad you ask? Yes,…I was making sugar coated almonds for a salad topping and had NO idea what Broil meant…lets just say, almonds, sugar, broil = fire! Let’s just say big joke of ours is what a “great” cook I am!
Now that I take the time to try to figure out what I am supposed to do, not just throw a little of this and a little of that into the pot, my dishes are actually quite nice! Saturday night I made a wonderful Roasted Pork Loin with Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette. And served with it Broccoli Slaw, Cheddar and Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes and for desert, Strawberries with Balsamic Vinegar over Ice Cream. It was wonderful!
Sunday we had left over mashed potatoes with Chicken Spiedies with Sesame Sauce. I am trying to get a lot more organized with my meal planning and actually plan meals out. I really enjoy non simple dishes, but try to not make them too complicated so that I do not mess up every single dish in the house!
My goal is to make a meal calendar each week and try to stick to it! It is hard when things just come up, or you already have a couple of nights you know you will be out of the house for dinner. But, hopefully this will keep me organized and keep teaching me what I have been missing by not cooking in the kitchen! Here we go with this new journey!
