It dawned on me that I had not shared the name of Baby
McClendon #2 with the blogging world. I
discussed in an earlier post that I was anxious to pick out a name but this
child took a lot longer to name than Mac did! Since Mac’s name (Wade Wilson)
was from Wade’s side of the family, we decided that this child’s name would
come from my family’s side. So the name game was on. Well, we had about 5 from
each my mom’s side and my dad’s side to work with, and being the complete nerd
that I am, I found a program that would let you see all sorts of name
combinations if you input all the names you were considering. So I entered them
all in and the program worked its magic. Again, in true nerd fashion I printed
two copies of the “lists” and Wade and I both voted (separately) on which names
we like. We gave each name a 1-10 and then I totaled them all up. Well the name
that “won” is the reverse of what we actually chose:
Wiley Williamson
McClendon
Williamson Wiley actually won by one vote (Wiley Williamson
was 2nd) and we decided that since we would call him Wiley, that we
would put that name first! Well, we sat on it for a few weeks, just talking
about his name with each other to see if we really liked it, and the day we
thought we had decided, we went to church and a man by the name of Wiley Spivey
stood up to talk about all the Senior activities going on at FBC. We both
looked at each other, and took that as a sign that Wiley was going to be his
name! Now, the history on “the name”
Wiley Jones Croom was my great (times probably 5)
grandfather on my dad’s side, who was born in 1795. I went WAY back people. After we chose the name, I learned (b/c you
have to make sure these people weren’t like ax murderers that you are naming
your child after…) that he actually named one of his children Laura. I am one
of MANY MANY Laura’s in the family but honestly never knew who we were all
named for. Well, it was Wiley’s daughter! Isn’t that neat!?
Williamson has a history in my mom’s side of the family. My great
grandfather, grandfather, uncle, and cousin are all Weldon Williamson Doe’s, and
my middle name was also Williamson. The
name goes farther back than my great grandfather, but I won’t bore you with all
the details. I am glad I was able to honor both sides of my family with names
from two great people!
Mac has been practicing (and is actually very good) with the
name, and I believe understands that he is getting a new friend named Wiley
soon. We talk to Wiley, tell Wiley not to be scared when it’s thundering
(cutest thing ever b/c he totally did that on his own) and he will randomly say
Wiley’s name when we are talking. Also a
fun fact: Mac and Wiley will have the same initials. Score! All those
monogrammed outfits I get to reuse!
The real countdown is on! Only 12 weeks and a few days until our
little buddy gets here! We could not be more excited!
Love the name! Are you sure that you didn't plan the same initals?? Ha!
ReplyDeleteWell all the names didnt start with W's...but that might have come into consideration when voting....
