Ta-Da!

I have to admit, I did not want (ie push for) Mac walking until much later. While the thought of him walking was really cool, selfishly I thought about how much harder it would be to keep up with his speed demon self. So, I didn't ever try to hold him in the standing position or anything like that. Naturally he pulled himself up to this position himself and was cruising furniture. (This happened a few months ago) But he never would let go of his favorite toy that he pushed all over the place. Well actually he did it on accident a few times but it was for like 2 seconds at a time. And I was fine with that. I saw lots of babies younger than Mac walking and there were times where I thought "is Mac behind or something" but after reading some stuff online I was comforted when it said "On average a child will begin walking at age of 12 or 14 months but considerable differences are likely. Some children begin walking much earlier and some as late as 21 months." I thought, well ok,...I have many more months before I should worry. And at the same time I could easily keep up with him since I am still faster than his crawl and I can hear it on the floors. Well this weekend while we were down in Ocean Springs, Mac decided that he would let go for real. At first, as you will see in the video below, he would let go for a few seconds and then grab again, and he would all cheer and what not, but last night he picked up his food cup and started playing with it and not holding onto anything. He was standing for a few minutes but not realizing it I guess because I didn't cheer. This morning he was standing in his crib and I handed him his bottle and he just let go and grabbed the bottle and started drinking it. Of course when he needed to throw his head back to get the milk near the end he sat down. It was just so funny how it seems like all of a sudden he has this new thing that isn't a big deal to him, but to me it is a huge milestone. He hasn't taken any steps but I know that is next. My attitude has totally changed too from not caring about him walking to ready for him to go! I want to get some more video of him but I only have the few seconds of standing now thanks to Nicole's quick thinking and her iPhone! And since it was the "real first time" I am glad to even have that!
