The Facts: Clary Elizabeth McClendon was born at 7:51 am on August 28, 2014. She weighed 10 lbs 7 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long.
The Story: I checked in at Baptist East at 6 am for a 7:30 surgery. Everything was very routine as far as checking in goes. I had a GREAT CRNA (Brittney) who listened to my concerns after my c-section with Wiley and was wonderful about making sure she was doing what she thought would make the experience much better this time. I was very anxious this time, much more so than my repeat c-section with Wiley and I think that was because of how horrible I felt during the last one and was nervous that this was going to be the same. Dr. Saucer was there to assist Dr. Phillips again and that put me at ease having two great doctors working on me. I was very thankful that I only had 3 "episodes" of BP dropping but Brittney was about to get me back to normal quickly and overall the experience was MUCH better this time. I actually remember my child being born! :) Dr. P and S both let out a "wow" when she came out bc of her size and Dr. S told my parents that I had probably 10 lbs of fluid besides the 10 lb baby. Dr. P later told me that I had probably developed late onset gestational diabetes and that was a reason for all the fluid and Clary Elizabeth's size. Right when she came out they took her to the nursery and apparently checked her sugars and they were low so they gave her a 2 oz bottle (and apparently she drank most of it) about 15 mins after birth. Every time I fed her I had to give her a bottle after and after checking her sugars a few times they took her and gave her something in an IV and she had to stay in the nursery. Finally on Saturday afternoon (she was born on a Thursday morning) I was able to have her in the room with me and IV was removed and all the sugar issues had resolved. We were very thankful she did not have a delayed stay in the nursery!
The boys came by Friday morning (because I wasn't feeling well Thursday night) but because she was in the nursery they could only look at her through the glass. Mac apparently kept saying "she is SOO beautiful" even though there was no way he could really see her but he was just so obsessed with her and it was so sweet that he was so excited about her. Wiley seemed confused!
Other than that, things were pretty routine. We got home on Sunday afternoon and Wade and I had night one at home by ourselves. The boys came home from the lake Monday and they were both SO excited to see us and the baby. Mac was just the sweetest and used the terms "beautiful" and "cute" about 100 times. It was just adorable! Wiley just wanted to pet her head and said "baby" a lot.
The first few days at home were a little rough for me because she was used to getting a 2 oz bottle after every feeding and I wasnt doing that at home, so she was HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. When I finally trained her (I guess that is what happened) that she was going to eat every 2 - 3 hours things got much better. She is a little over 3 weeks old now and things have been going well. She sleeps anywhere between 4-6 hours at night which is great. She eats every 2 1/2 - 3 hours during the day now and would go longer if I would let her but I don't so she will sleep at night. I have tried to do the same routine that I did with the boys because it seemed to work out well, and so far, so good.
We have had our first trip to Birmingham and on Wednesday we are going to Olive Branch for a few days. I feel like with the boys they didn't really "slow us down" and I wasn't sure how having 3 would feel, but I guess I feel more confident with each child and therefore I feel like I can handle the traveling and feeding on the go, etc.
Hard to believe next Sunday she will be a month old! The time sure does fly!
