Rewind to October 28, 2009. I knew I was going to the doctor for a blood pregnancy test, however, being myself, I had to go purchase (aka waste my money) on a home test so I would have a heads up on the status of my pregnancy-or non pregnancy. So I take two of three in the box, and both read negative….I feel completely normal, don’t feel pregnant at all, so I am very content doing my blood test just to make sure before I start my new medicine. (I take a medicine, but you cannot take it if you are pregnant, so I can only take it the days before I could possibly be pregnant..TMI I am sure, but that’s why I have to go into the doctor to get the blood test.) So, I walk in on October 29, this time the doctors office takes forever to get me back there for the lab, very unusual, anyway, so I go take my test, and go on to work,.. The next morning I call the Dr’s office to get the results..You see, it was Friday, and the close at noon, and I was not about to let that answer linger in the doctors office all weekend, no thanks, so I am that person that calls in the morning and asks like I am just confused if the lab work is back (knowing full well it is…) Anyway, so here is how the conversation goes:
Nurse: Hi Laura.
Me: Hello
N: So what is going on with you?
M: Well I came in for a blood test yesterday and I was wondering if the results were in.
N: Oh ok, well let me check. Are you felling ok, are you having any problems?
M: Oh I feel completely normal, I just take the blood test to make sure that I am not pregnant before I start some new medicine.
N: Oh ok, well your test came back positive. Congratulations..
LONGGGGG PAUSE
M: What?
N: It came back positive
M: Umm…uhhh….ok….uhhh,….so what do I do know???
N: Well, the numbers were kind of low, so Dr. Phillips wants you to come back Monday for a recheck, just to make sure that everything is ok.
M: Umm…uhhh…ok….uhhh….ok……
N: Ok, so just come in Monday, go to the lab and your lab work will be downstairs waiting.
M: Umm…uhhh…ok….
N: Are you ok?
M: Uhmm. Yes I am fine, just completely in shock. I took an HPT and it came back negative, so I was sure that I wasn’t…
N: Well sometimes that happens, and the hcG that we look for doubles every 48 hours, so that’s why we want you to come in Monday. It was probably just really low and the HPT just couldn’t pick it up. (I think she could tell I was shaking and in shock because her tone on this one turned very maternal and sensitive)
M: Oh ok I see. Ok, well I will come in Monday. Thank you so much. Bye
So…because I HAD to call in the early morning, I get my first test of patience…Its 9AM and Wade is busy at work and I could not go tell him because he had something he had to finish. So at work I think I got about an hours of work done (from 8-9) because the rest of the day I was just looking things up, trying to think straight etc…I was a LONG day!
After I leave work, I get home, whip out that last test from the box and take it. I got the FAINTEST line possible (I tried to take a picture, and it was so light you really couldn’t see it…) I then run to Michaels, and get some supplies together to make some shirts for me and Bear (the dog) to wear when Wade gets home that night. So I make the shirts, Wade calls and asks me if I can come help with his project. So I hide the test, and the shirts, and go spend the night helping him. Around 11, Frazier and I have to leave to come home because we are exhausted, and I get into bed, calling Wade every 20 mins or so to make sure he is ok, and to see when he is coming home…FINALLY around 1:45 Wade gets home, and Bear is there to greet him in his “Big rother” Shirt. (yes, that said “Rother”…the B kept falling halfway off…) ha. He walks in and I’m wearing my shirt. He just stood there for about 20 seconds, not saying a word. It was probably not the best time to tell him because he had just been doing manual labor for the past 48 hours straight…But I am not one of secrets so I knew I wouldn’t last not telling him until he was better rested. He was in SHOCK because I had taken those tests and they had come back negative…so he was totally caught off guard, as well as so exhausted he couldn’t think.
The next day, we had a fundraiser to attend, so we did that. And on the way home, I picked up some cards for the family and ANOTHER test…digital this time…I have always wanted to use one of those, but couldn’t justify the costs…well that sucker read PREGNANT on it…well worth the money! I got my sisters and brother cards to tell them we were expecting since everyone is soo scattered around the country. Vaughan’s birthday is on Nov 4th, so I got him an “Uncle” card and then Julie and Emily I got thank you cards (because they had been praying for me) and signed them all “Laura, Wade, Bear, and Baby McClendon” I cant wait to get the phone calls next week after I mail them!!
Anyway, I guess this is enough for now. A lot more to come later!!!
